FFXIV producer/director: “I want for FFXIV to be a ‘fanservice title’.”
Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0’s producer and director Naoki Yoshida said in an interview with Famitsu that his plan for the game’s upcoming revamp to be a “fanservice title” in or to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary this year. Such elements that are reminiscent of past main series titles he listed were a the inclusion of XIV’s version of Final Fantasy III’s Crystal Tower, and that Magitek armor would appear in the same designs used in Final Fantasy VI. The game’s world Eorzea itself is also being reimagined to harken back to past universes such as Ivalice from Final Fantasy XII and Tactics, and Gran Pulse and Cocoon from Final Fantasy XIII. Yoshida feels that by drawing from the series’ past and recreating them in Final Fantasy XIV’s art style, this will excite players into trying out and playing 2.0.
Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 will be for PC and Playstation 3, with promotions beginning this August and alpha and subsequent beta testing beginning in late September.
